A Recipe from New
Classic Cocktails:
The Cosmopolitan. (Makes one cocktail)
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar, to coat the rim of the glass
- 1 teaspoon finely grated orange zest, to coat the rim of the glass
- 2 ounces citrus-flavored vodka or unflavored vodka
- 1 ounce Cointreau
- 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1/2 ounce Simple Syrup (see recipe)
- 1 ounce cranberry juice 1.
Mix together the sugar and orange zest. Moisten the
outside of the rim of a cocktail glass with vodka or lime juice; sprinkle
lightly but evenly with the sugar and zest mixture. 2. Fill a large shaker
glass two-thirds full of ice cubes. Add the vodka, Cointreau, lime juice,
simple syrup, and cranberry juice; shake until well blended and chilled.
Strain into the prepared glass. Serve at once.
|
Simple Syrup (Makes 2-3/4 cups)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups water
1. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar with the water.
Cook over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar completely
dissolves and the syrup is clear, 3 to 6 minutes. Do not boil. Remove
the pan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool.
2. Pour the syrup into a bottle or jar and refrigerate; it will keep indefinitely.
We recommend that you store the syrup in a bottle fitted with a professional
pour spout.
